In 2013 for the first time in Prague, we created a festival that presents local and international light art. Back then SIGNAL festival lit up for four nights the public space of Prague historic center with installations by the best audiovisual artists worldwide and many important authors from the local scene. It dragged 250 thousands of visitors to the 35 installations in the streets which is an enormous success in the Czech context.
One of the main ideas of the festival was to establish a tradition of the contemporary audiovisual art in the Czech Republic, where light art was not very renowned yet. SIGNAL festival gave opportunity even to local artist who do not primarily work with light to express themselves in a different media and in public space. Bringing the world stars of videomapping to Prague was the icing on the cake which crowned the festival to Prague’s most important cultural event of the autumn 2013.
